This is a list of useful software to see, manage and edit photos under xUbuntu.

Shotwell

Shotwell is a complete solution that can be used to view and edit images. For those who comes from the MAC world, Shotwell ~ iPhoto

Official website: https://wiki.gnome.org/Apps/Shotwell

Installation

apt-get install shotwell

Usage The application is available in Start menu > Graphics > Shotwell

Fotoxx

Fotoxx, like shotwell, is a complete solution that can be used to view and edit images.

Official website: http://www.kornelix.com/fotoxx.html

Installation

apt-get install fotoxx

Usage The application is available in Start menu > Graphics > Fotoxx

  • On the 1st start you have to choose a picture directory. I advise you to choose: /home/myUser/Pictures/

Then, you can easily browse your images.

Digikam

Shotwell is an advanced solution to manipulate and organize photos. For those who comes from the MAC world, Shotwell ~ aperture

You should NOT install it on xUbuntu because it will bring a lot of KDE libraries. But as a passionate, there is no other alternatives.

Installation

apt-get install digikam digikam-doc
